A roadside evangelist in Isingiro district, pastor Peterson Ndyomugyenyi is in police custody in Ntungamo district for alleged murder.
Police accuse Ndyomugenyi and two other suspects identified as Keneth Buryahika and Brian Muhwezi of killing a five-year-old boy.
The pastor is said to have first kidnapped the deceased identified as Primus Aturiheihi on December 24 and demanded for a ransom of Shs 1 million from Editor Kamusiime, the mother who is a resident of Ntungamo Municipality.
Kamusiime says she received calls from the kidnappers who asked for money to secure the release of her son. Kamusiime reportedly paid the ransom but the kidnappers demanded for more money saying they would only release her son upon the payment of an unspecified amount of money.
The kidnappers reportedly went ahead to kill the boy and dumped the body near Kamusiime’s shop.
Ntungamo district police commander. Baker Kawonawo, says that the kidnappers have been working as pastors and at times obtaining money claiming to be fortune tellers.
He says the suspects could have used the deceased for ritual purposes since they made several cuts on the body. He adds that Keneth Buryahika, the foster father to the deceased has been arrested on suspicion that he had a hand in the move.
